Last week, we welcomed students and staff from Marian University’s Understanding Poverty class to our Opportunity Center. The students, majoring in Social Work, had the chance to learn more about the challenges faced by some of our low-income neighbors in Fond du Lac. Through exposure to our services and testimonials, they gained deeper insight into the realities of poverty and the support systems available.
We are grateful to Marian staff and students for their genuine desire to learn and thoughtful engagement. As shared with us afterward, the visit was a meaningful and eye-opening experience for both the students and staff.
Our Opportunity Center provides essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty, offering access to basic necessities, mental health and wellness resources, employment support, and housing assistance. Since opening in November 2024, we have helped over 200 individuals take steps toward stability, serving nearly 40 people each day.
We look forward to continuing to connect with organizations in our community to help deepen understanding of the causes of poverty in Fond du Lac. By sharing stories, experiences, and insights, we hope to foster greater empathy and meaningful action to support our neighbors in need.
