Members of the ADVOCAP team were grateful to participate in WISCAP’s annual Advocacy Day last week in Madison. Wisconsin Community Action Program Association (WISCAP) hosts this event to support community action across the state and create opportunities for collaboration with legislature.
ADVOCAP staff attended a day of advocacy training and also met with legislators to discuss the impact of our programs for low-income individuals. Our Executive Director, Tanya Marcoe, co-hosted a WISCAP breakout conversation with Marc Perry of Community Action, Inc., highlighting pressing childcare issues in our service areas. ADVOCAP presented our upcoming Childcare Incubator project in Oshkosh and its innovative approach to addressing the affordable childcare shortage.
The ADVOCAP Childcare Incubator will directly address this shortage by recruiting and supporting new childcare providers in Oshkosh. Our phased approach includes future expansions, such as a Children’s shop for clothing and other items to generate operational funding and additional childcare units to meet growing demand. By combining workforce development, poverty reduction, and sustainable childcare expansion, the Childcare Incubator represents a transformative investment in the community’s future. Learn more about the Incubator in this project summary PDF.
We’re grateful to WISCAP for organizing this event and to the legislators who took the time to meet with us. We hope to have many more opportunities to continue the conversation about how we can work together to build strong, self-sufficient communities.
